Camera is positioned as if in the audience at a vaudeville or burlesque show. Two men with long hair and beards in rough clothing appear to be eating and talking in a box on the left as a female aerialist sits on a trapeze over the stage and its painted backdrop of trees. Fully dressed in street clothing, the trapezist removes her jacket and hat before performing a flip. She stands to remove her skirt and then sits back down on the bar as she takes off her corset and throws it to the country...

William King Baggot stars in this early dramatization of Robert Louis Stephensonâs classic horror story. Although the script maintains the essence of the original story there are a quite a few differences. In this version, for instance, Jekyll is romantically involved with a woman named Alice. Please note that this is a silent movie and no soundtrack has been added. You can learn more about the film at A Passion for Horror

Released in 1935, as a silent with background sound effects, this film was soon pulled by Soviet censors who believed the special effects (which are not bad) were flippant. Music composed and copyrighted by Edward Rolf Boensnes.

Breve Storia del Cinema - Il cinema di Méliès: http://www.brevestoriadelcinema.org/2-3.html With godly entrapments, Zeus appears on the horizon, engages Hermes as an audience, and tries to throw some thunderbolts. They fizzle. Hephaestus tries to make some repairs but succeeds only in heating the bolts and burning Zeus's hands. Zeus conjures nine muses, but do their incantations help? He dismisses them as well as a visiting Pan, and his fits of pique become counter-productive. Can he get his...

Eadweard Muybridge It may come as a surprise in the twenty-first century to discover that in the 1880s, details of how objects move were unknown. The human eye, unaided, cannot resolve the details of fast motion. Eadweard Muybridge and his experiments with motion photography, such as this series of pictures of a horse's gait helped solve this mystery. http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/exhibitions/permanent/windows/southeast/eadweard_muybridge.html Eadweard Muybridge was one of those outlandish...

This is the same Trip To The Moon that you will find in three other places on the Archive, one of them mine. I realized after uploading that those versions went at the video speed of 30 frames per second. Those movies were originally projected at 18 frames per second. I went back to my editing program but the closest I could come to it was 20 fps. I thought I would have to replace the music, but slowing it down like that did something t it which is not unpleasant. enjoy. â

Le Voyage Dans la Lun (A Trip to the Moon) by Georges Méliès (1902) George Melies's `A Trip to the Moon' welcomes a change in film making of the twentieth century. Combined with live action as well as models, the movie tells a story about astronauts who take a trip to the moon. The moon, having a human face captures the astronauts after they crash into its eye. They later escape the moon and it's moon-men and make it back to earth safely. Melies wrote, directed and starred in this movie. He...

This film was produced by Thomas Edison for his Home Kinetoscope in 1910, The First American Science fiction movie. We scanned 10,000 frames from the original print and reconstructed it. We also added a period sound track. As far as we can determine this is the only existing copy. It comes as a bit of a surprise to me , that some people want to use this neat little film as a platform to attack Thomas Edison. Evidently some see it as a threat to the great Lumiere film "A tip to the...

The Eleonora Olson Concert Company performed in Butte, Montana on the evening of March 29, 1911. The event took place in the auditorium of the Butte Free Public Library. On stage were the Olson Sisters and their accompanist Alice R. Walden. The studio recordings in this collection are a recreation of the program: solos, duets, instrumentals and spoken word. All of the musical numbers are represented except for the unspecified folk songs. The impersonations by Ethel Olson have been replaced by...

Pulp magazines (often referred to as "the pulps"), also collectively known as pulp fiction, refers to inexpensive fiction magazines published from 1896 through the 1950s. The typical pulp magazine was seven inches wide by ten inches high, half an inch thick, and 128 pages long. Pulps were printed on cheap paper with ragged, untrimmed edges. The name pulp comes from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. Magazines printed on better paper were called...

I heard that someone wanted this cartoon. Here it is in all its glory. A buddy from the film restoration society Nashville office had it and he did the restoration. The one that I had was in awful shape. Poor color, poor soundtrack, and the whole works that was in poor shape. The film restoration society sent a whole package of puppetoons. More to come in the future.

This is the classic surreal movie VAMPYR (1932) Re cut and dubbed for the American market in 1934. This print is pretty poor but this is a rare film.
